Since I made a skirt last year with a shirred elastic waist and realised just how easy it is I have since made several maxi dresses with shirred elastic busts. So when I was deciding on what style skirt to make my niece as part of her 'Pretty Penguin Collection' I decided on a shirred waist skirt as I love the pretty detailing it adds...
"Shirring can seem daunting but in most machines it is fairly easy - just make sure you play around with some test fabric first. As a general rule, you will want to lengthen your stitch to around 2.5 to 3. You may need to adjust your upper thread tension as well, although on my machine it stays the same"
This skirt is suitable for girls aged 2-3 years.
The skirt fits a waist of 50½-52cm (20-20½),
the finished length of the skirt is 18cm (7").
To increase the size just add width and length to the rectangles as below.
