Paper-Napkin Decoupage Egg Tutorial

As my Easter colour palette is based around some pretty bird print napkins from H&M it seemed only fitting to use one of the napkins to decorate a whole bunch of hanging plastic eggs using a decoupage technique.

As the napkins are on a duck egg blue background I painted the eggs in a similar colour. I love how they have turned out and can't wait to hang them from some branches.

Here's how I did it...

How-to step by step

  • Ribbon Hanging Plastic Eggs

    Step 1

    Make sure your plastic eggs are clean and dry.

  • Paint egg

    Step 2

    Paint the egg with a couple of coats of paint and leave to dry. Optional: Replace plastic egg stopper with egg hanger and decorative ribbon.

  • Cutting out napkins

    Step 3

    Carefully cut round the bird shapes.

    Separate printed top layer of napkin and discard under layers

    Step 5

    Work out the position of your bird and coat part of your painted egg with decoupage glue using a small brush. Apply cut out bird design to your egg ensuring there is glue under your cut out piece and smooth down with the brush.

    Step 6

    Apply decoupage glue to the top of your cut out bird and leave to dry.
