I first discovered Hema whilst on a work trip to Antwerp in Belgium and filled a shopping basket with pretty printed cocktail umbrellas, printed paper and fabrics, bunting, paper plates and so much more. So you can imagine my delight when I recently found out they had opened two stores in the UK, one in Victoria Station, London and the second in Kingston upon Thames, not far from where my parents live, so I had to go visit. More on that later...
Hema was started in 1926 in Amsterdam as a department store full of products at set prices of 10, 25 and 50 cents. It has since grown into an international retail organisation with over 700 stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Germany, Spain and the UK.
"Every product in our stores is a HEMA original. Every day, we do our best to surprise you with practical, unique and extraordinary products. That’s why we’ve personally designed and tested every single product in this store."
They sell an abundance of products from kitchen equipment, crockery and cake decorations to bathroom storage and towels, great stationery and kids toys to name a few.
