Gluten Free Blackberry & Apple Crumble Recipe

Growing up fruit crumble was my favourite dessert, so when I discovered I could no longer eat gluten I went about coming up with an alternative. I have found that a mixture of gluten free plain flour and ground almonds makes the nicest crumble topping and my favourite fruit is either apple and blackberry or pear and blackberry. My partner even prefers gluten free crumble to regular as he says it is lighter!

So when the lovely peeps at Tala sent me their fab apple peeler, corer and slicer in one and oh so pretty but extremely practical Tala Originals small roaster, I chose to make a gluten free blackberry and apple crumble...

Method

Gluten Free Blackberry & Apple Crumble

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F

  2. Peel, core and slice apples, chop into small chunks.

  3. Lightly butter dish and add the chopped apples.

  4. Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice over the apple chunks.

  5. Add the blackberries and caster sugar to the apples and stir well.

  6. To make the crumble topping: Put the flour and ground almonds in a bowl and mix well, then stir in the sugar. Cut the butter into small cubes, add to the mixture and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture is the texture of breadcrumbs. Lay the crumble mixture on top of the fruit.

  7. Bake for 45 minutes or until the fruit is cooked and bubbling juices seep through the topping.

  8. Cool for a few minutes and then serve with custard, fresh cream or vanilla ice cream.
