My Summer House - Inside

I have to admit when we came to view the house we eventually bought I was certainly swayed by the fact it had a shed, summer house and greenhouse already in the garden. Within months of moving in I had cleared out the summer house removing old bits of carpet and wallpaper and giving it a good clean.

You can read all about the work I did to get it to the fun part, decorating the inside in my post 'My Summer House - Part One'

I had hoped to deck out the inside last year but with writing, sewing and styling my second book and working on landscaping the garden ready for the book shoot I ran out of time before the weather turned cold. When Spring arrived I had to transfer all the garden equipment etc that was being stored in our garden shed to the Summer House because the shed had deteriorated so much that the rodents got in and it wasn't safe to store anything in the shed. So after having a re-order a couple of months ago, ready for our new shed, I was able to free up the Summer House and start decking out the inside...

I wanted the Summer House to provide a great way to relax in my garden, somewhere to sit back and enjoy the garden. A special place I could use for writing, crafting and reading...

I wanted the inside to match my cottage style garden and to be in the same colour palette of white, mauve, lilac, lavender and blue with the addition of duck egg blue...

I already had a garden bench that I decided would make great sofa like seating and bearing in mind that I recently got an Arbour bench from the lovely peeps at Asda I knew I wouldn't miss having the bench outside and if I did it would only be a short move to take it outside. For my book 'Torie Jayne's Stylish Home Sewing' I made a bench cushion, bolster cushions and basket weave cushion so I already had a head start on making my bench both pretty and comfortable. My bench had seen better days after sitting out in the winter weather so I gave it a new lick of paint using Laura Ashley's Pale Dove Grey exterior paint.

I also had a small metal garden bistro table that would provide somewhere for me to write and craft at and fits nicely into the corner. I decorated the table with a vintage tablecloth that my Mum gave to me which I hand dyed a duck egg blue colour then dip dyed the edges in pink which turned to a beautiful shade of lavender.

To provide storage and to add interest I spray painted some wicker corner shelves which I have filled with my outdoor dinnerware so it is easy to hand when the sun shines! I also spray painted a bedside table and wicker basket all in the new Valspar Primer & top coat in one in the pretty wildlife matt colour. What I love most about my Summer House is that is filled with crafts, sewing makes and upcycled furniture so it is totally unique to me, my little slice of pretty pastel heaven... oh! and the fact that it has two power sockets so I can sew or work on my laptop and listen to tunes on my Roberts Radio...
