Winter Living by Selina Lake
I am a big fan of Selina Lake's signature pretty, vintage, romantic style and have reviewed several of her titles here on Torie Jayne. So when I saw that she had a new sixth book book out 'Winter Living, An inspirational guide to styling and decorating your home for Winter' published by Ryland Peters & Small, I just had to take a closer look...
Winter Living, An inspirational guide to styling and decorating your home for Winter is about decorating and transforming your home into an elegant and welcoming haven inspired by the magical charm of winter. Featuring inspiring homes from around the world, including tips for winter florals, fabrics, scents and lighting.
The book is split into six main chapters, starting with 'Winter Inspirations' where Selina shares her top ten things to do in Winter and how to pick and choose Winter scents and florals.
The second chapter 'Homespun charm', is for those who like a cosy and colourful home created with vintage finds and home makes. Along with inspirational homes in this section you will find DIY ideas like the autumn-leaf garland and ideas on floral arrangements.
The third chapter "Faded Grandeur" Selina shares how she sees the beauty in exposed bare plaster walls and peeling wallpaper. How the look of faded grandeur is in the rich mix of textures and the enhancement of architectural details. Tips include how to choose your colours, ways of speeding up the vintage look and how to make gilded pear decorations to add opulent charm.
In the fourth chapter "Rustic Retreat" Selina reveals how to be inspired by log cabins, old barns and even the humble garden shed to create a earthy, simple, natural style. As with the other chapters Selina first talks about Textures & Tones, how to bring nature indoors and in Rustic Retreat you learn how to DIY a pinecone wall display and a rustic garland.
In the fifth chapter 'Winter Whites' which is my favourite chapter, there is a section on 'magical lighting', 'Romantic Whites' and how to make fairy light bunting and a moss candle arrangement. Here you are inspired by delicate lace textures, warming knitted blankets and vintage french-inspired salvaged antique pieces, with pretty metal tartlet tins used as dainty tealight holders.
And of course what Winter Styling book would be complete without 'Festive celebrations' a chapter dedicated to the "most wonderful time of the year". Selina starts off this chapter on 'Making an entrance' with a bunch of inspiring wreath ideas then there is the pretty inspiring 'vintage Christmas' in a metallic pastel colour palette, cosy 'country Christmas' which includes how to make felt bunting and patchwork tree baubles. A 'natural Christmas' with making ideas like turning your photos into Christmas tags and labels and the 'traditional Christmas in a rich colour palette of dark woods, plum and crimson. Last but not least, styling ideas on hosting a modern colour-pop party with neons and new year's eve celebrations.
Please note that my opinions are my own and I am not paid for these reviews (apart from receiving a free book, of course!).
Have a sweet day!
