Back in September when I visited Top Drawer I got a sneak peek at the new book from Rice founder Charlotte Hedeman Guéniau, entitled 'Happy Home Outside: Everyday Magic for Outdoor Life'. I loved it, so when the lovely peeps at Rice DK offered to send me a preview copy I jumped at the chance. The book is not due out till February 2016, but you can preorder it on Amazon now.
Happy Home Outside: Everyday Magic for Outdoor Life is a beautiful hardback book brimming with colourful inspiration for outdoor decorating and styling solutions, from furniture, lighting and seating to creating bunting, table settings and party spaces. Whether you own a city verandah, country field or a small courtyard there are outdoor decorating ideas here for everyone. Happy Home Outside starts off with a lovely foreword by Will Taylor of Bright Bazaar an a introduction by inspiring Charlotte and then the book is split into six chapters where Charlotte brings her everyday magic and glorious sense of relaxed living with bright colour to every corner of the garden...
The first chapter, 'Inside Out' is all about making a smooth transition from indoors to outdoors. How you can create a good set-up that enables you to live outdoors by making your outdoor space a natural extension of your home. Ideas include making practical transitions between inside and out with plastic rugs and good doormats. Lots of beautiful inspiration on creating cosy corners on your balcony, patio or decking, styling up your summer room or conservatory and a great section on planting containers, creating a herb garden and Charlotte has also included crafty tutorials like how to make a spoon curtain, upcycle a flowerpot and make a tea towel cushion
Next up is 'Outdoor rooms' which is brimming with inspiration and tips on creating separate, self-contained spaces like huts, greenhouses, summerhouses and sheds. Great ideas on how to create an outdoor kitchen and a magical treehouse! Craft tutorials include painted soda bottles and storage pouches.
From there we go to 'Relaxing outdoors' which is all about how if you put the same effort into creating your outdoor space as you do your interior, you will surely find you spend much more enjoyable time outside. Ideas including serving up treats, creating cosy corners and lazy lounging areas. DIY tutorials included in this section are drawer tables, cool canopies and pallet swings.
Next up is 'Outdoor entertaining', from everyday family meals to larger scale gatherings and events this section is full of great ideas like how to light your gathering, dress your table and includes some lovely recipes and crafty tutorials.
Further to the outdoor entertaining chapter 'Playing outdoors' has a great host of ideas on how to keep your guests entertained from games you can create yourself like the memory card game to how to set up the best movie experience.
Last but not least there is also a chapter on 'Moveable spaces' that covers the joy of travelling out of the garden into the wider countryside with cool caravans. To mastering the art of picnicking.
